Red Is The Color Of Change
For the 11th consecutive year, Apple continues to show their support towards the AIDS-fighting charity (RED). Originally founded in 2006 by U2’s lead singer, Bono, and Bobby Shriver, (RED) has dedicated the last decade to provide counseling, testing, and medicine that prevents the transmission of HIV from a mother to her unborn child as well as helping those affected by the virus in different regions of Africa. Apart from trying to accelerate the end of AIDS, The Global Fund also fights against tuberculosis and malaria. Apple has played a key role in providing funding, and to date, Apple (RED) products have raised over $160 million to the cause, making it the largest corporate donor.
Starting today, you may pre-order the (RED) iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in select countries or you can pick up one from the Apple Store this Friday. Apart from the red glass enclosure with matching red aluminium band on the sides, this year’s (RED) iphone features a black glass on the front, a much awaited change from last years iPhone 7 that was offered in white. Specs for this phone are otherwise the same as the standard model 8 and 8 Plus, but of course you get the added benefit of the social responsibility component attached to the red colored phone.
Together with the iPhone, other (RED) products have been released, including an iPhone X leather case, apple watch sport and leather bands, as well as Beats headphones and speakers. Note that no (RED) iPhone X has been released yet, maybe we’ll have to wait and see if Apple is saving it for next year’s debut.
