Let Your Front Door Welcome You Home

Let Your Front Door Welcome You Home

Imagine walking up to your front door to find that it’s already unlocked for you. As if you had a personal butler; someone, or something, that knows when your hands are full and unlocks the door so you don’t have to. That’s why the team at Friday Labs designed the Friday Lock, a connected gadget that will do just that.

Before the Friday Lock, all the smart locks we had seen were big, bulky and not very practical, but everything changed when Friday was released. Friday was built to be the smallest retrofit lock on the market, measuring only 2.7 inches in diameter. Its ergonomically centered design, inspired by the architectural principle of Saddle Roofs, makes it striking and simple, while the removable shells that cover the mechanism are available in several finishes and materials so you can choose the one that best fits your style. The Friday Lock replaces only your existing thumb latch, but leaves the rest of your existing lock intact, which means that from the outside no one will know you have an smart lock. And thanks to the superior quality materials and well as its Over-Torque technology you’ll still be able to open your door the traditional way, both from the inside and outside, without damaging the gears of the device.

Although it may look simple at first glance, don’t let it fool you, the Friday Lock is packed with a super computer inside. It features the same security and encryption standards as most internet banking sites, so If you feel safe logging onto your bank account online, you should feel the same way about installing this gadget on your door. The smart lock uses a rechargeable lithium battery with an equivalent lifetime of 8 AA high quality batteries. The Friday App will notify you when the battery is running low so you can replace it with one of the two rechargeable batteries included. The app connects to Apple’s HomeKit and IFTTT to enable advanced features like geofencing and remote access, allowing you to automatically open the lock as you approach home and control your lock via secure internet access. In the event you need to, you can issue digital keys, which other people download and use to access your house. Those keys can be granted or revoked at any time, making it extra convenient for when the in-laws visit, the dog walker gets home to take out the dog, or your AirBnB guests check in.

Friday Lock quite literally opens the door to new possibilities and the way you interact with your house. It may take you a little time to get over the impulse of reaching for your keys as you approach the door, but once you get used to it, you’ll never understand why you used physical keys for so long.
