Did I Read Champagne Gummy Bears?
A luxury candy store is not the typical outcome of your third date, but that’s exactly how Sugarfina came to be. Founders, Rosie O’Neill, former director of marketing for Barbie, and Josh Resnick, former video game entrepreneur, came up with the idea of opening a candy store for adults after watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. As their relationship materialized, so did their idea of establishing a gourmet candy brand. Together, they traveled the world to taste thousands of artisanal candy and sweet products. Their idea was to reintroduce the lost art of high-quality artisan candies, which still endured in other parts of the world, but was long-forgotten in the United States.
Sugarfina made its online debut on August 2012 selling its premium curated confections through their website. Their concept quickly became a hit and in 2013 they decided to open their first retail store in Beverly Hills. Named one of the top ten most beautiful candy stores in the United States by Architectural Digest, Sugarfina’s crisp aqua-and-white retail boutiques are meticulously designed to create a chic grown-up candy heaven. With hundreds of luxurious candies displayed in modern glass-like looking cubes, the overall feeling is just incredible. Currently, you may purchase Sugarfina at one of their 24 retail locations across the U.S., online, or in any of their 15 Nordstrom Shop-in-Shops.
Among the confections you can purchase, you’ll find premium candy like Gummy Bears made with Dom Pérignon Champagne, chocolate-covered kumquats from Greece, rainbow-hued Kyoto Blossoms from Japan, Single Malt Scotch Cordials, Peach Bellini® gummies, and But First, Rosé Roses. This last one became especially famous after the brand accumulated a 12,000 person waitlist during pre-sale. Sugarfina also offers seasonal and theme specific options such as The First Impression Rose and Kiss & Tell All gummies to celebrate ABC’s reality show The Bachelor, or Pot O’ Gold pearls to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
With all of their success, the brand has not forgotten about social responsibility. Among all of the ways they give back, they donate net proceeds from gift bag sales to plant trees in local communities, as well as, a percentage of their profits to KIVA, an organization that supports female entrepreneurs in developing countries. As if this wasn’t enough, the company excels in supporting schools and charitable organizations in the neighborhoods surrounding their boutiques.
Next time you have a sugar craving, visit your nearest Sugarfina store and ask one of their candy concierges for free samples and recommendations. They can also help you sort candy for a specific theme party (like The Bachelor viewing parties) andcorporate events. Let's not forget, a party is not chic if it doesn’t have champagne bears and Rosé gummies, right?
